Wix or a custom website?
Short answer
Wix and other builders are great to start fast and cheap if your site is simple. A custom site pays off when the website is a key sales tool: it loads faster, fits your brand and doesn't depend on a monthly subscription.
When Wix is enough
- You need something simple: who you are, what you do, how to get in touch.
- You have time to build and maintain it yourself.
- Your starting budget is very tight.
When custom is worth it
- The site has to sell, take bookings or capture leads every day.
- You want your own design, not a template thousands of businesses use.
- You need specific features: integrations, payments, client areas.
- Speed matters, especially on mobile, which also counts for Google.
Medium-term cost
With a builder you pay little up front but every month, forever. With a custom site the investment comes first, then just domain, hosting and whatever maintenance you choose. Over two or three years the numbers are closer than they seem.
